Climb Stok Kangri

15 day trip / 9 days Himalayas trekking

A classic 6000m trekking peak..

Stok Kangri stands magnificently at 6,153 m towering over the Stok range of the Himalayas. It is a popular peak to take on as an initial non-technical foray into high altitude mountaineering.

Your challenge starts in the Tibetan influenced, enchanting town of Leh, in the Ladakh region of Northern India. Already 3,500 m above sea level, over the first few days we take time acclimatising to the altitude visiting the historic and religious sites of the region as well as exploring the local bazaars and streets of this bustling gateway to the Himalayas. We trek steadily on our way to the summit of Stok Kangri as we reach higher altitude, passing through gorges, criss-crossing the Markha River before the path steepens. On our tough summit night, our trek takes us across the glacier to a steep ridge and we make a scramble to the top. After all the effort, we are rewarded with breathtaking views as the sun rises, and we are surrounded by the Himalayan peaks all the way to the horizon. After taking it all in, we descend down to celebrate our achievement together.

With our Challenge App, you can get to know your team-mates before you depart. The Challenge is then capped off with a great celebration dinner, where you can all toast your success and have fun, with medals and certificates you can take home as a memento.

How hard is the challenge

This is one of our toughest Himalayas Challenges. You should be an able trekker, and preferably have some experience at altitude. This is a long challenge, and you will spend 10 days over 3,000m. This requires good endurance and recovery, and no small amount of mental strength too. You will be supported by our Leader & Medic, with an excellent team of local crew assisting throughout.

The trek is non-technical, meaning you won't require any specialist skills, but you do need to ensure you have adequate kit. The summit climb requires that you have crampon compatible B1 rated mountain boots, and you should ensure you have sufficient cold-weather clothing. Be prepared to encounter extreme temperatures, and understand the risk of frostbite if you do not use adequate equipment or follow the guidance of our staff.
