This trek has been categorised as a moderate challenge. However there are very tough days, including climbing more than the height of Ben Nevis in one day and also on day 5 when we climb to Sandakphu for the panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks. We are also trekking at altitude, at over 3,600m, so it is important to be fit and prepared. The fitter you are, the easier you will personally find it, heightening the enjoyment of your challenge. We recommend endurance and strength building exercises as well as fitting in some good long walks to prepare for the longer days.

Yes! We have a number of pre-challenge Training Days in London and the North and South Downs, and weekends in the Peak District, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons spread across the year, from early Spring until September, so there should be a weekend to suit you.
Our training weekends are the best way to prepare yourself physically and mentally prior to tackling one of our Challenges, and they are a great way to meet other trekkers, the Action Challenge team and our fully qualified Mountain Leaders. They're also a brilliant excuse to also test out your kit and equipment, against the elements!
We also run challenge briefings in Central London.
Visa - Yes British Passport holders do require a visa to enter India, which can be purchased from the Indian embassy in London or you can now submit an application online.
Insurance - Insurance is imperative and should cover the costs of medical repatriation and trip curtailment costs. We recommend you obtain insurance as soon as possible after signing up so you are covered for any eventualities.
Vaccinations - Malaria tablets should also be taken however please visit your GP to discuss your options and check you are up to date with all your boosters.
Life on the Trek
All of our challenges are group adventures and the average size is approximately 20 participants. We welcome individuals, couples and groups of friends on to our challenges, and many who join us literally have a mountain to climb in terms of the scale of the challenge they are taking on. We advocate camaraderie and team bonding, and really believe that this enhances your experience.
We guarantee to you that the maximum group size is 25 participants.
Your challenge will be led by an experienced Action Challenge leader. Our leaders are selected for their experience, knowledge, enthusiasm, sensitivity and sense of humour, and will ensure that your trip runs smoothly.
You will also be accompanied by an Action Challenge UK doctor, who will be carrying a fully stocked medical kit in case of any emergency. They will carry out daily health checks, and the reassurance of their presence should allow you to focus on, and enjoy your challenge!
We have a full support team in country with two way radio contact between the Action Challenge Head Quarters in London and local staff and satellite phone for emergencies. If for any reason you need to leave the group early local staff will assist you and will arrange transfers, accommodation and medical care if necessary.
The best months to trek in this region are April - May and October - November. During April - May there may be occasional showers, however, this would be fully compensated by the beauty of the seasons flowers, especially rhododendrons. Sometimes due to prolonged monsoons, there may be occasional rains during the first half of the month of October but November is generally dry and visibility is excellent.
Food - Breakfasts each morning will be at our accommodation or camp, whilst lunches will be en route. Evening meals will be freshly prepared for us either at our hotel or camp in time for our arrival. There will be a variety of rice, pasta, vegetables and a selection of fresh meat and fresh fish.
Dietary Requirements - Please note that we will do our best to accommodate all dietary requirements if informed in advance.
Accommodation - Accommodation on this trip will be varied with 4 nights in comfortable 2/3* hotels in Darjeeling and Delhi and 5 nights spent in well-equipped tents with thick sleeping mats. All accommodation is on a twin/triple-share, single-sex basis and we will pair you with someone of a similar age, where possible.
Single supplement - If you decide that you would like to have your own room/tent on the challenge, we can accommodate this in the majority of places.
Flights & Extending Your Stay
All flights depart from London and are inclusive in your package.
Yes, this becomes our land only package and reduces your final balance or minimum sponsorship balance - please contact us for more information if you are looking to book your own flights.
You will be required to arrange all flights and transfers in order to meet the group at the starting hotel on day 2 of your challenge and Action Challenge will require details of your travel arrangements before departure.
Please note you are unable to change your package once final balance invoicing has been completed and tickets have been issued by the airline.

Funding & Fundraising
You can choose to fully fund the challenge yourself, fundraise for a charity of your choice (from which approximately 50% of the sponsorship will cover your trip cost), or opt to do a mixture of both! For all three funding options, an online registration deposit is required to secure your place.
We have worked with over 200 UK charities and welcome partnerships with new ones all the time! As long as they are a registered UK or Irish charity and agree to you doing so, we are more than happy for you to fundraise for any charity close to your heart.

Before you embark on your challenge, it is essential that we receive your passport, travel insurance, next of kin, medical details and dietary requirements (if applicable). If you have any medical conditions to declare or are over the age of 65, you will be required to complete a medical declaration form, signed and stamped by your GP. If you don’t have all this information to hand, you can still register your place today, and then re-log into the form before you depart by using your email address and the password you create upon registration.
